This collection contains materials relating to the interior design of North Carolina State University buildings. Many designs are for laboratories and laboratory fixtures, particularly Gardner Hall. There is also correspondence dated 1951-1966 with North Carolina State University officials and personnel. Herman Bernard Carpenter (1911-2008) designed university and medical school laboratory furniture for the Southern Desk Company in Hickory, North Carolina, and also had a private consulting company that designed interior layouts for architectural firms.
